Kidding a bit, don't worry. 飲み放題 (=nomihoudai) is translated with: "trink as much as you want", so basically "All-you-can-drink" and it's a pretty common thing in Japan.There's some thing like 食べ放題、(tabehoudai, tabe = eat), too btw. You're going to an Izakaya (that are small japanese pub / bar mixtures, often serving little snacks and drinks),pay -depending on the izakaya of course- between 2,000 and 3,000Yen, sometimes more, sometimes less, and you could drink as much as you can / want during a certain period of time. Here in Akita it's probably a bit cheaper than in Tokyo in general.

Ich mache nur ein bisschen Spaß, keine Sorge. 飲み放題 (nomihoudai) wird in etwa übersetzt mit "Trink so viel du möchtest", also "All-You-Can-Drink" und es ist in Japan sehr verbreitet. Es gibt im Übrigen auch so etwas wie 食べ放題 (tabehoudai, tabe = Essen). Man geht in einen Izakaya (das ist eine Mischung aus Bar und Pub, die meistens kleine Snacks und Getränke anbieten), bezahlt zwischen 2,000 und 3,000Yen - kommt natürlich auf den Izakaya an- und kann für eine bestimmte Zeit trinken was man möchte. Hier in Akita wird es im Allgemeinen etwas günstiger sein als in Tokyo beispielsweise.

First Order // Erste Bestellung[/caption]A lot of people may think about some heavy drinking party escalation now, but as far as I experienced it, japanese people are not going that far (and if they do, it's business men, who're trying to hit on little blonde girls in Ikebukuro. uääh.). For european and american people (for the sake of simplicity in the following; gaijin, which is actually a negative afflicted japanese word for foreigners, but most of us use it for fun) it's not that easy to get completely drunk within the time, due to really weak cocktails, compared to what they're used to in their home countries. And yes, here is a stereotype convicted!
Einige werden jetzt eine heftige Alkohol-Eskalationen denken, aber so viel ich jetzt mitbekommen habe, gehen die Japaner selten so weit (Und wenn, dann sind das Geschäftsmänner, die dann kleine, blonde Mädchen in Ikebukuro belabern. *schauder*) Die Europäer und Amerikaner (der Einfachheit halber im Folgenden gaijin, gaijin ist eigentlich ein nicht sehr nettes japanisches Wort für Ausländer, aber die meisten hier benutzen es aus Spaß) haben es eh ein bisschen schwer sich abzuschießen, dank schwacher Cocktails, und ja hier ist ein Vorurteil als Wahrtheit entlarvt!
Ein Teil unserer Gruppe hatte es allerdings geschafft. Mit 15 Bier in einer knappen Stunde. Kann man machen, muss man aber nicht, ne?

beer table // Biertisch[/caption]As the last bus to the campus goes at 21.05 from Wada Station, we had to catch the train at 20.38 in Akita City. You have to calculate a lot with the bus timetable while studying at AIU and it is annoying, yes. I had to wait for a bus in Wada Station for 3 hours last week, because I didn't want to take a cab, which is possible, but expensive imo.
Da der letzte Bus von Wada zum AIU Campus um 21.05 fährt, mussten wir in Akita City den Zug um 20.38 erwischen. Wer hier studiert, muss sehr gut mit dem Zeitplan der Busse rechnen, was tierisch nervt ja. Ich musste letzte Woche 3 Stunden in Wada auf einen Bus warten, weil ich kein Taxi nehmen wollte, was möglich, aber teuer ist.

Alcohol gives you new friends // Alkohol beschehrt einem neue Freunde[/caption]On the account of the above written things, there are a lot of parties directly on the campus. You can rent rooms, but also throw a party in your own room, both have advantages and disadvantages.
I found about 4 different parties at this particular evening, and with a little bit of smiling it's pretty easy to join any party you want - as long as it's not totally overcrowded when you enter the room / building lol
Aufgrund der oben beschriebenen Problematik, gibt es viele Parties direkt auf dem Campusgeländert. Man kann hier spezielle Räume mieten, die aber natürlich oft ausgebucht sind, zumal man nur in zwei davon Alkohol trinken darf und die Student ID aller Teilnehmer angeben muss, oder eben eine Party in den eigenen vier Wänden schmeißen - beides hat seine Vor-und Nachteile.
An diesem speziellen Abend hab ich vier Parties gefunden, und durfte bei allen fleißig mitmischen. Mit einem freundlichen Lächeln ist es meist nicht schwer, neue Freunde zu finden - zumindest als Frau ;)

Party Akita-Style // Party nach Akita Art[/caption]As you can see on the picture above, there's a reason why you can't enter a party any more at some point. It's getting overcrowded pretty fast especially if the room owner is popular. This picture was taken on another party the same evening.
Although everyone (including the officials at AIU) knows, that there are going parties on everywhere, nearly every day, but nonetheless they can't and don't want to change anything, unless it's getting too far. At the same evening, a group of students got into trouble because of a really big party, of which some neighbours (according to the mail we got from the General Affairs Department there are some neighbours - I have absolutely no idea, where the heck they should live instead of in the middle of the forest next to the bears and spiders there but oh well) complained. As per mail said, the organising people of the party got some trouble so one should always be careful, not to overdo it!
Wie man auf den oberen Bildern sehen kann, gibt es gute Gründe, warum man manchen Parties zu späterer Stunde nicht mehr beiwohnen kann; es ist einfach schon voll. Ein Foto einer anderen Party des selben Abends btw.
Obwohl jeder (auch die Obersten der Uni) wissen, dass es hier ständig überall Parties gibt, können und wollen sie das nicht ändern, solange man sich an die Regeln hält und es nicht übertreibt. Am selben Abend bekam laut einer Mail eine Gruppe Studenten Probleme, die eine ziemlich große Party organisiert hatten über die sich dann die Nachbarn (Die es laut selbiger E-Mail auch gibt. Keine Ahnung wo die wohnen sollen außer im Wald nebst Bären und Spinnen) beschwert haben. Anscheinend haben die Organisatoren sogar eine Strafe bekommen.
